Support your instance

Status: placeholder. This guide will be written after launch.

Pavillion's funding model is voluntary contributions to keep community infrastructure running — closer to how a public radio station funds itself than to a paywall. Hosting an instance costs its operator real money: servers, storage, someone's time. A funding plan is how a calendar owner pitches in. It's billed like any subscription; it works like public radio. This guide will cover how to start a funding plan, which of your calendars it covers, and what your contribution does and doesn't buy.

Planned scope

  • Starting a funding plan and choosing an amount (pay what you can — every contribution helps)
  • Choosing which of your calendars the plan covers, and the extended features that unlocks
  • What your contribution does and doesn't buy — the features are a thank-you, not a purchase; the point is keeping the instance online for everyone
  • Managing your plan: changing the amount, how renewal works (a recurring subscription handled by Stripe), and cancelling
  • The role Stripe plays at the level a non-developer needs (your instance hosts the payment surface; card details go to Stripe, not Pavillion)

The term you'll see throughout is "funding plan." Where payment mechanics come up — renewal, billing, cancellation — that's a subscription, and the app says so plainly.
